About Me

Hey readers! My name is Sc1Fly (pronounced SCI-FLY) and for my philosophy nerds my blog name is inspired by Diogenes the Cynic. Ya know, the one who told Plato that, by his own definition, a featherless chicken is also a man? I’m a sci-fi fanatic with a B.A. in Applied Ethics and minor in Anthropology, which just sounds like Im puffing myself up so here’s a little more.

You can probably already tell what I’m here for but I’ll state the obvious just to be annoying.

I was drawn to the science fiction genre at a young age, always wondering if I would’ve made the same choices as the protagonist, or antagonist when I felt closer to their personality. This part of sci-fi, the ethical part, is a central theme in pretty much every book in the genre. From the potential one-for-one destruction of species in Cixin Liu’s masterpiece to the increased safety and near non-existent privacy in many dystopian novels, moral dilemmas are always at the forefront. Honestly, it isn’t difficult for me to assume that my degree path was inspired by sci-fi.

I’m blogging publicly because my close group of friends are annoyed by my rants about how certain problems could’ve solved or possible alternatives to disastrous decisions (though the disastrous decisions are what make the stories interesting.)

My goal is to connect with other sci-fi buffs and hopefully inspire some to delve into the wonderful world of sci-fi if they hadn’t before.
